The world of Dimentiara is not only home to Kreatures, but to a number of sapient species, each with their own niche and cultural traits.
Humans
Homo sapiens
A race of bipedal omnivorous primates. The humans of Dimentiara are the survivors of the “Dimentiara Exodus”, a multicultural population of extra-dimensional refugees who managed to escape through a one-way dimensional portal before their home world was destroyed. They have no way of returning and the people they left behind are all long dead and gone. Most humans these days are Offshoots descended from Mass Produced Humans that were grown in factories to boost the population; certain individuals have inherited strange eye colours as a result. Though physically frail compared to even the weakest Kreatures, humans have been able to thrive in Dimentiara thanks to their ability to live almost anywhere and breed at any time of the year (to the point where they now outnumber sapient non-humans by a wide margin.)
Domonids
Domo anthroraphus
The second-most numerous sapient species in Dimentiara after humans. They were formerly a fierce warrior race, but have since embraced a more peaceful lifestyle. Though they are technologically advanced, Domonid tradition is steeped in nature worship. They live in villages of nest-pods built high in the treetops of old-growth forests and they alone have the ability to mindlink with Kreatures naturally. Thus, Domonids were the first Kreature Tamers, and Kreature Combat was invented by Domonid warriors as a way to sharpen their skills.
Silarcs
Silarcus subterraneus
A serpentine species who live in underground cities powered by geothermal energy. They invented the Tamer Amulets which can allow anybody to mindlink with a Kreature. Silarcs are not sexually dimorphic and therefore have no concept of gender roles, nor have they ever worshipped any gods due to their inherently empiricist mindset. Silarcs metamorphose from vicious non-sapient larvae called “Caelings”, and though adult Silarcs are terrestrial, they can’t tolerate prolong exposure to dry heat so they wait until night to come above ground. Despite appearances they’re not blind; their eyes are merely hidden behind a one-way face plate.
Dolneans
Dolneania sophinia
These semi-aquatic people are Dimentiara’s smallest demographic due to their long lifespans and correspondingly low reproductive rate. Though having a raw intellect equivalent to any of Dimentiara’s other sapient races, the majority of Dolneans live in simple communes next to lakes and rivers. Instead of inventing their own technology they’ve been content to mostly reverse-engineer whatever they need. Dolneans are known for their rich oral tradition, with an emphasis on history. They walk on all fours but can use their tails as a tripod so they can work with their hands.
Notes
- Though humans are animals, Domonids, Silarcs and Dolneans are not. From a purely biological standpoint they are technically wild kreatures, though most would not find the comparison any more flattering than would a human being compared to an ape.
- Dimentiara is a big place, and the four main species only made contact fairly recently from a historical standpoint. It's possible that there may still be uncontacted peoples who evolved in isolation living in Dimentiara's more remote, less explored regions, such as in the Cryptic Forest, the continent of Severax, deep underground or on distant islands.
