Human

Humans (Homo sapiens) are a sapient species which resides in Dimentiara.

Origins

Humans are not native to the world of Dimentiara. They arrived as a group of refugees who survived the destruction of their homeworld by escaping through a one-way interdimensional portal. They have no way of returning and the people they left behind are all long dead and gone. The descendants of this original group of refugees are known as Direct-Liners.

During the Refugee Wars, humans were grown en-masse and employed as soldiers by both the Zartex Coalition and the Kiisaktos Empire. Descendants of these bioengineered humans, known as Offshoots, now form about 75% of the human population.

Characteristics

The original group of refugees who escaped from Terra were culturally and ethnically diverse. As such, they retain the same genetic diversity and physical attributes as their ancestors. However, as a side effect of the cloning process used to create them, the first batch of Mass Produced Humans sometimes developed strange eye colours and/or a glittery metallic eye sheen which they passed on to their children. This condition, known as spectralopia, has been inherited by the Offshoots descended from this original batch. Later batches would iron out the weird eye colours but the metallic sheen still had a 1 in 50 chance of emerging. Most Offshoots lack spectralopia and are indistinguishable from Direct-Liners.

Culture

Human culture in Dimentiara consists of a hodgepodge of various imported Terran cultures that were part of the Exodus, along with various Zartexian and Kiisaktos customs they picked up during their integration into Dimentiaran society. Broadly speaking, human culture in Dimentiara's Eastern Hemisphere is more familiar and "Terran-like", thanks in part to the greater population of Direct Liners who lived in the nations that were once Zartexian territory. In Dimentiara's Western Hemisphere, particularly in Lenlaria, human cultural practices have a lot more Kiisaktos influence, as these humans are mostly Offshoots descended from Mass Produced Humans raised by Domonids.
