A species complex of intimidating black venomous spiders characterized by purple markings on their undersides. The shape of their markings vary widely from one nation to the next; hourglass shaped in Zaitopia, coffin shaped in Akatoria, blotchy in Badonlas and so on. Very rarely, specimens will have abdomens that are entirely purple. It's thought they became so common due to spiderlings being spread along wind currents via ballooning. It spins tangled webs in dark, damp places, catching prey such as crickets and beetles, though even scorpions and small lizards may be caught as well. Despite the potency of its venom, bites are rare and deaths are rarer still. Most victims are very old, very young or immunocomprimised.
