Nucleo-Aura

A Kreature's Nucleo-Aura (typically referred to simply as an Aura) is a kind of endosymbiotic biological forcefield emitted by its Nucleus, composed of a network of tiny, intelligent extradimensional particles. It is the source of their extraordinary powers.

Properties

The Nucleo-Aura permeates a Kreature's tissues and instantly spikes in response to duress, projecting an invisible protective barrier and binding the cells together at a microscopic level, making them impossible to separate. Small amounts of surplus aura particles stored in the nucleus can be transformed into large amounts of bodily tissues, allowing a Kreature to regenerate from any injury so long as its nucleus is still intact. As a result, Kreatures are nigh-indestructible, but an aura can still be breached by another aura of equal or higher intensity.

Kreatures possess all manner of seemingly supernatural abilities such as fire breath, eye beams, telekinesis and so on. These powers can be considered expressions of the Kreature's aura, which can warp reality within its own boundaries. It is for this reason that, for example, a plume of flames conjured by a nucleo-aura can breach another while a flamethrower emitting normal fire will fail to do so.

Nucleo-auras behave almost like a non-newtonian fluid, reacting with higher intensity the more duress is applied. This is to prevent them from constantly spiking in response to benign phenomena such as raindrops or snowflakes. Therefore they do not protect the Kreature from the ambient temperature of their environment, and while a conventional missile or bullet may be deflected by the aura, a mosquito bite or a gentle prick from a hypodermic needle may not.

A Kreature and its aura, which is alive in of itself, are considered mutually symbiotic and one cannot survive without the other. When a Kreature dies, its nucleo-aura, having no biological host with which to remain in a corporeal form, fades away. If a Kreature were to have its aura siphoned out, it would also die, as the aura's reality-warping abilities are essential to the functionality of their bizarre anatomy.
