Endemic Wildlife of Dimentiara

The Caustic Toad (Anaxyrus amphurious) is emblematic of Dimentiara's animals; small, cryptic and foul to the taste.

Biodiversity in Dimentiara is not composed entirely of Kreatures. There are animals, plants, fungi, etc, just as there is on Terra; in terms of sheer biomass they actually outnumber Kreatures. The earliest Kreatures originated as a result of aura-enhanced horizontal gene transfer between Dimentiara's prehistoric life forms; indeed, the genetic legacy of many extinct animals, such as dinosaurs, lives on in the DNA of various Kreatures. Though one might assume Kreatures would displace conventional life forms, Aura exists as a resource that Kreatures specifically require, allowing for niche partitioning to reduce competition.

All that said, megafauna (animals over 45kg/100lbs in weight) are rare in Dimentiara, with the niches for larger organisms being occupied mainly by Kreatures. Animals in Dimentiara tend to max out at roughly the size of a cow. Anything past that becomes a tempting amount of protein even it lacks any aura, thus selective pressure favours smaller sizes among Dimentiara's animals.

Some animals were imported by human refugees and others existed simultaneously in both worlds, but some are endemic to Dimentiara. This is by no means a complete list, but merely a catalogue of Dimentiara's most noteworthy native fauna.
